EAT upholds age discrimination appeal

A group of London firefighters has won their appeal to overturn an employment tribunal ruling that they were not subject to age discrimination after new pension rules were brought in.

Sir Alan Wilkie, who ruled over the proceedings, stated in the court documents: “In my judgement, the employment judge’s decision on the issue of legitimate aims was correct, did not contain any error of law so the appeals on those grounds fail. She did, however, err in law in her consideration of the question of whether the means were proportionate for achieving the legitimate aims and, accordingly, the appellants’ appeal must be upheld in that respect.”

Digital skills are essential in today's world, both for organisations and individuals. People need access to the internet and online networking. They need the skills to enable them to interact on these platforms. Equally importantly, they need the motivation to do so, and they need to feel confident that they can do so without risk of being hacked and their personal, financial and other information being accessed, misused or stolen.
