We grow as many new brain cells as the young

brain cellsA new study reveals that elderly people grow just as many new brain cells as teenagers.

For a long time, it was thought that our brains were hard-wired and so therefore not able to form new cells.

The research by a Columbia University found that us older people continue to produce neutrons in the area of the brain that deals with memory and emotion at a similar ratio to younger people.

These findings could well help in finding new treatments for conditions like Alzheimer’s Disease. Although the researchers did note that there were fewer blood vessels and connections between cells in our older brains, this may be linked to compromised cognitive-emotional resilience.
