Chris Walsh, Wise Age Chief Exec, went to a meeting on Best Practice on Age Friendly Cities / environments last week in Brussels. This is an important element in improving the age friendliness of our local boroughs as well as London wide and it is crucial that older people themselves are involved in carrying this out, as well as to get sufficient funding to allow this to happen. Here is his report of the findings which he found quite inspirational and along with the example of Manchester could serve as a basis for future activities in London and across the UK.
Free, informal employment support for older working age people in Hackney - this Wednesday at Chats Palace
We know how difficult it can be for people aged over 50 to find work and have teamed up with Connect Hackney to provide support and guidance to help you overcome the particular barriers that you face.
Since March this year we've been running informal fortnightly sessions at Chats Palace in Hackney to discuss ways to improve your chances of finding work or maybe start your own successful business.
There's no obligation and you can come as many or as few times as you want.
If you're still looking for work and are free this Wednesday, 27th September, from 11.00am - 3.00pm why not come along?
If you can't make this week we're running further sessions on 11th and 25th October then right through to the end of the year.

You've nothing to lose!
We hope to see you there.
On Monday The Guardian published a comment piece by Michele Hanson, '70-year-old baristas? The government should wake up and smell the coffee'.
As the article by-line says,
'As more people are forced to work later in life, DWP advice for bosses to make concessions to older employees looks farcical – and our future looks frightening'
Wise Age has been campaigning for years to get the government to allow the DWP to reinstate the support programmes to help the 50+ back into employment and self employment. We need the government to reinforce our message to employers that 'Hiring older workers and having an age diverse workforce boosts your profits, productivity and employee loyalty'.
